A map helps us study a smaller part of the earth like a state or a city.A map is a drawing of the earth's surface on flat according to a scale.A book of maps is called an atlas.

Types of Maps

There are three types of maps :

Physical Maps

A physical or a relief map shows natural features of the earth such as mountains,plateaus,plains,rivers,etc.

For examples : We can see mountains,forests,and water bodies.

Political Maps

A political map shows cities,town and villages,and different countries and states of the world with their boundaries.

For example : In the political map to the right,the different lines represents the borders that divide India into differents states.

Thematic Maps

A thematic map focuses on a specific theme such as roads,rainfall,or industries.

For example : In the thematic map to the left,different colours represent the amount of rainfall in different states of India.
