Why do we need political parties?

We need political parties because:

  1. They contest elections and form govt.
  2. They play decisive role in the making of laws. The opposition party questions all the policies of the ruling party.
  3. If every candidate in the election will be independent, no-one will be able to make promises to the people about major policy changes.
  4. In absence of parties, govt. may be formed but it's utility will remain ever uncertain.
  5. I. absence of political parties, elected representatives will be accountable to their constituency. No one will be responsible for how the country will be run.

Without political parties, electors would have to evaluate every individual candidate in every single election they are eligible to vote in. Instead, parties enable electors to make judgments about a few groups instead of a much larger number of individuals.
