As we know the earth is 360 degree round or it has 360 longitudes. One rotation of earth takes 24 hours or you can say 15 degree in one hour or 1 degree in 4 minuets. We calculate the works time from Prime meridian that that located in Greenwich london. every place on earth has its local time and at every 1 degree the change is of 4 minutes. According to this Indian longitudenal distance is 30 degree means 2 hours difference from East to west ( Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat). so 2 hours difference is very big that y India made its Standard meridian at Naini Allahabad exact between longitude that is 82 degree 30” east and 7.5 multiples of Prime meridian. so. we reduced the one hour difference in time. Though it’s also long but we are trying to make two meridians because in the far east of India sun sets very early then other places of India. So The significance of Standard meridian is to manage time difference in the country.

Hola Mate,

India is very vast country. Almost 30° are passing from westernmost state Gujrat to easternmost state Arunachal Pradesh. Due to this, here is a difference of two zones and there time.

To avoid confusion of these different timings in different state of India, one standard meridian is taken to have a uniform time for the entire country. 82°30 is taken as standard meridian of india...
