.Sustainable development is essential because:

(i) Rapid economic growth and industrialisation have led to reckless exploitation of natural resources.

(ii) There is fear of complete exhaustion of these natural resources.

(iii) In the process of economic growth, damage is being caused to environment and ecology which ultimately will create insecurity for human beings
