Average speed = Total distance / Total time
Total time is the time you want to find the average speed for.
Some car fuel economy instruments give an average speed indication. These are based on average speed while moving so they are not including time while stopped.
If you are wanting to know your cars average speed then a 200 mph sports car which does 5,000 miles per year will have an average speed of 0.57 mph (Kind of makes a mockery of that top speed!)
