Standard Time refers to approximately the same time for the region that lies around a longitude that has been considered as prime.
Each longitude lies 15 degrees apart with a difference of about 4 mins. In order to avoid confusion with regards to the local standard time of the country each country selects a particular meridian and sets the time of the country as per the time zone of that meridian.

Explanation: The fundamental benefit of standard time is that it facilitates the creation of a regular schedule for modes of transportation like trains and airplanes. It reduces the expenses that would otherwise be associated with losing time and having to adjust to new timetables.
