why do we need to know the center of mass of an object ?for which objects , its position may differ from that of center of gravity?​

All objects also have a point where the distribution of weight is is equal in all directions known as centre of gravity. Hence mostly these two points that is centre of mass and centre of gravity are at the same point hence used interchangeably.
