Why do we need to separate different components of a mixture? Give two examples.

\huge\bold{\mathtt{Answer⇒}}

We need to separate different components of a mixture because among the different components of a mixture, many unnecessary substances are present in a mixture which are useless to us. In some case, they can also be harmful to us. To remove these useless and harmful substances, we need to separate different components of a mixture.

For example,

  • Tea leaves are separated from the liquid using strainer.

  • Pebbles are separate from sand using a sieve.

We need to separate different components of a mixture because

  • Mixtures are often accompanied with impurities and unwanted materials. In order to obtain the pure mass from the mixture, separation of mixtures becomes necessary.
  • One of the example is Salt extraction from seawater. When salt is extracted from the seawater it's accompanied with lots of impurities from the sea. So, in order to extract pure salt lots of purification techniques are involved.
  • Another example is Separation of Oil and water. With the help of a separating funnel oil and water mixture is separated on the basis of their densities.
