hand picking-hand picking is often used when the impurities in a food item is different in size, shape and colour.

sieving-if components of mixture are of different sizes,they can be seperated by sieving.the smaller component passes through the pores of the sieve and the larger component (such as stone or husk) is left behind

filtration-the process by separating two substances by passing the mixture through a filtration device is called as filtration

We separate different components of mixture because in wheat first it is small plant then we have to do Threshing then Weonning and this step then we get clean wheat and for water we have to do Filtersation method then it becomes pure water so that's why we have to separate mixture.
