why do we not feel the heat and light of the stars, even though they are so big and hot?

It is because stars (other than our Sun) are very, very far away from us and theheat energy generated by them is lost to the surroundings via absorption in the surrounding medium. But we can see light emitted by stars unless there is some blocking medium in between such as dust clouds
