why do we not hear echos in our ordinary surroundings?

Beacause in our ordinary surroundings there are many things to absorb the sound so we cant hear the echos, or in open areas we hear echo eaisily

the minimum distance required for an echo to be produced is 16.6m which doesnot have in our ordinary surroundings.
