Why do we not use glass rod or copper rod for flame test?

Glass is a mixture of compounds like sodium silicate and calcium silicate which impart colour to the non-luminous flame. Copper reacts with hydrochloric acid to form copper (II) chloride, which volatilises and produces green flame.
