Answer:

Atmosphere has 21%of oxygen,78%of nitrogen and the rest 1% is different gases such as CO2 ,He etc.

The main function of respiratory system is to extract Oxygen from atmosphere and deliver it to tissues .we can agree this as % of oxygen is more than other gases .

Haemoglobin has one affinity for oxygen.Of course CO has has 210 time more affinity. It is less than oxygen in atmosphere .

We may think that Nitrogen is more than oxygen,it can also be inhaled right? But we can't consider it because:

Haemoglobin has less capacity to bond with nitrogen

Nitrogen when inhaled in some circumstances such as high pressure causes nitrogen Narcosis which means starts to get euphoria sensation, impairment of mental functions, alcoholic intoxication etc

So nitrogen can't be inhaled .

Over all Oxygen becomes the king to inhale.
