why do we plant seeds in the soil even through they do not require it to germinate

seeds are planted in soil because soil helps the plaNt to get nutrients like nitrogen etc

Along with the air,water,sunligt the seeds require minerals such as calcium, nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus. ...etc which is provided only by soil
