We pour a few drops of oil on the hinges of a door to reduce the friction in the hinge. Here, oil is used as a lubricant to reduce the friction between metal surfaces.

We pour a few drops of oil on the hinges of a door because by applying oil friction between the door hinges decrease .This helps prevention of wear and tear of door making it long lasting .Also this help in free movement of door as friction is less .
