why do we prefer a convex mirror as a rear view mirror in vehicles

We prefer convex mirror as a rear view mirror because of tow reason:-


(i) a convex mirror always produce an effective image of an object.

(ii) the image formed in convex mirror is highly diminished on much smaller than the object due to which convex mirror is a wide field of view.
a convex mirror enables a driver to view much larger area of the traffic behind him that would be possible with a plane mirror. plane mirror gives a narrow field of view. due to this if a plane mirror is used as a rear view mirror in vehicles it will give the driver a much smaller view of road and traffic behind. rear view mirror are also known as driving mirror or side view mirror or wing mirror.

A convex mirror is used as a rear view mirror in the vehicles as it is having a wide range of view formed as virtual, erect and diminished image.
