Why do we prefer a spanner of longer arm as compared to the the spanner of shorter arm?

A spanner works on the principle of angular moment. see diagram is shown above,

It is most effective when a small force creates a large moment.
for this to happen, when the perpendicular distance between the point of application and point of action of the force, r (in this case, the length of the handle is perpendicular distance between the point of application and point of action of the force) must be increased, since moment of a force \tau= r × F.

That’s why we prefer a spanner of longer arm as compared to the spanner of shorter arm.

. A spanner with longer arm provide more torque compared to a spanner with shorter arm because the distance between two forces is more to the longer arm spanner so we prefered it .
