Martyrs' Day or Shaheed Diwas is observed on January 30. The day marks the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. On this day in 1948, Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse in the compound of Birla House after one of his routine multi-faith prayer meetings. Godse, a member of Hindu Mahasabha, blamed Gandhi for favouring the Muslim community during the partition of India in 1947. He shot Gandhi thrice in the chest and abdomen. It is said that the last words Gandhi uttered were “Hey Ram".

Answer: A martyr is someone who suffers persecution and death for advocating, renouncing, or refusing to renounce or advocate, a religious belief or cause as demanded by an external party.

1 : a person who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce a religion.

2 : a person who sacrifices something of great value and especially life itself for the sake of principle a martyr to the cause of freedom.

A historical figure is a significant person in history, I guess  Alexander the Great, Queen Victoria, George Washington and more!
