why do we say elections are free and fair

elections are said to be free and fair because every person irrespective of caste, gender, race, color and other inequalities has got the right to vote under the universal adult franchise. any person of 18 years of age or above can caste his vote to any political party upon his choice only. nobody has the right to pressurize the person to not to caste his vote or caste it to somebody  according to other's desire. therefore elections can be called free and fair. but i would also like to mention that where there is democracy, there is corruption too in this process!
