Hi means “hello” - it’s a greeting, you say it when you meet someone. Originally an Americanism from the 1800’s it has spread all over the English speaking world.
Hi can be addressed to anyone, including strangers.

bhujas: Yeah thnq
AbhiramiGNath: welcome
