This happens due to homozygous plants have same alles for the trait,so they would always pass the same trait to the next generation hence producing a pure progeny.
Heterozygous  are pairs of genes where one is dominant & one is recessive-they're different.

Homozygous plants produce pure progeny because they have same alleles.

Heterozygous means the individual contain the single copy of both the dominant and recessive allele.

Explanation:

  • The Mendel is known as the father of genetics. He explained the laws of genetics by working on the pea plant Pisum sativum.
  • The homozygous may be defined as the individual that contain the same allele of the particular trait. Whenever, the homozygous plants are crossed with each other, they produce F1 progeny that are heterozygous in inature.
  • The dominant plant can express itself even in the heterozygous condition as well in the homozygous dominant condition.
  • The recessive plants can express itself in the homozygous recessive condition only.
