the liberals could not be called as democrats because

1. they did not believe in universal adult franchise, that is, the right of every citizen to vote.

2. they felt men of property mainly should have the right to vote

3. they also did not want the vote for women.

all these things are not a part of democracy

hope it helps

we say that liberal could not be called Democrats because-

  • liberals are the political beliefs that is more philosophical and considers equality before law.
  • democrats are the people who believe in social equality and justice . every person has the right to vote and choose their government,
  • however, liberals are different from democrats because they do not believe in universal adult franchise i.e. every one has the right to vote.

hence, the above statement is appropriate.
