Why do we see a rise in temperature when the bulb comes in contact with a hot body?

the termomrter would be actually in the room temperature. The hot body would be hotter than the room temperature. As the law of heat mentions, heat travelles from a hotter region to a colder region.So the heat would be passing to the termometer from the hot body thus the termometer would gain heat and show an increase in temperature.
