why do we see bands separating in column chromatography​

this is due to the phenomenon that the substance with which we are performing chromatography will consist of different solutes of different solubility in water.

hence the solute which gets dissolved more easily in water will rise up with blotting paper due to capillary effect faster

whereas substance or solute which is is more in soluble in water will take more time to dissolve in water and will rise up with blotting paper slowly hence creating a separation between the band
