We see colours due to the presence of cone and rod cells on the retina of our eye. There cell help us to see different colours.

There are color sensitive cells in our eyes known as the rods. These enable us to see and distinguish between different colours.
For extra knowledge
Women have more rod cells in their eyes than men thus they have a better sense of colours.
