Rainbow appears in the sky due to dispersion (separation of colors) of white light rays coming from Sun.  The dispersion happens due to refraction and total internal reflection inside the raindrops.

The various colors in the spectrum of white light have almost the same intensity or brightness.  Due to scattering light rays of red color to violet are different, we perceive some difference in the intensities.  Red color gets less scattered away.   Also our human eyes perceive red color for wavelengths above 600 nm.  So we see more of red color.   Also our eye has preferences for certain colors.

So we perceive different intensities for different colors.
