We have to separate healthy and unhealthy seeds because the unhealthy seeds  do not give a better yield or sometimes not even grow properly. Whereas healthy seeds gives a better yield and can grow properly in soil.

The healthy and unhealthy seeds are separated by putting them in water. The seeds which float are unhealthy whereas the seeds which sink are healthy seeds.
