Thermometer is a medical equipment which is used for measuring the body temperature.
The mercury level inside the thermometer is the indicator of our body heat.
To make the mercury level stay at a neutral marking below the lowest count of the thermometer we physically shake the thermometer.
The shaking helps the mercury level of to get a neutral position inside the thermometer.
