We sprinkle talcum powder on a carrom board to reduce friction between the coins and the board. There are depressions and elevations on every surface of the world. By putting talcum powder you fill the spaces and therefore reduce friction.

by adding talcum powder to the board, you are simply reducing friction on the board which is indirectly increasing the tendency of carrom coins to move easily.
