why do we study population

We carry out studies of population to enable us to decide on the economic welfare and social benefits that should be given to the people of particular regions. To elaborate further, the Government and other bodies can then decide about the industries to be set up, the hospitals that need to come up, the transportation system to be put in place etc.
There may be other decisions taken too,based on our demographic studies. For example, whether the population growth needs to be checked, the municipal services required, town planning needs etc.
