Moll's half-leaf experiment was done to show that plants cannot photosynthesize unless carbon dioxide is available. Plants use sunlight and carbon dioxide present in air to produce food for itself, in the absence of either photosynthesis is affected adversely.

In the experiment, the Observation comes-

The leaf turns blue-black except in the covered region. As this covered region did not receive light, photosynthesis did not occur. Hence no starch was formed there. The uncovered region received light and starch was formed there due to photosynthesis.

If we'll take one leaf we'll not be able to perform the Experiment/Activity effectively.
