why do we take the value of a right angle as π/2​

These are 2 different units for measuring angles.

90° for right angle is in Degrees and π/2 is in Radians.

π is said to be equivalent to 180° so that's why π/2 is equivalent to 90°

Radians is the S.I. unit for measuring angles.
