when a vehicle accelerates and suddenly applies a break we posses what we call inertia.
according to newtons first law of motion...
an object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
so when the car is accelerating we are in rest position and we posses a definite velocity..
and when it suddenly applies a break we tend to retain that velocity so we fall backwards thus satisfying the law of inertia or what is also called newton's first law of motion.
