Yes, China is in a solid position today

Yes, the Chinese policy of disallowing opposition parties is not in accordance with democratic principles.

Explanation:

  • China does not follow the policy of "Free & fair" "electoral competition". In China, the elections are held regularly  after every 5 years for electing the nation’s parliament. However, only one party keeps forming the govt every year ( The "Chinese Communist Party")
  • The "National People’s Congress" only has the power to "appoint the President" of the nation. It has around 3,000 members who are elected from across China. Some members are also elected by the army.
  • A candidate must have the permission of the "Chinese Communist Party" before the elections are contested. The 2002-03 contesting of elections were permitted only for those who are members of the Communist Party of China or 8 smaller parties allies. The govt. is always set up by the Communist Party.

Reasons for China have a Strong Position Today

  • Chinese production is the biggest economy in the world and is a goods exporting country. It is now the 2nd biggest importer of products and is the world's fastest rising consumer market. . It is the world's largest trading nation and plays an important role in global trade and in recent years has been increasingly involved with trade organizations & treaties.
