Why do we think forests are conserved in areas not fit for cultivation

Cultivation creates the biggest demand on land

Cultivation for food crops or for plantations involves massive clearing of forests

in areas that are not fit for cultivation, the cost of establishing food and cash crops is high, therefore the natural vegetation is not disturbed and the forest grow at natural rate (eg:- western ghats)
