Noble gases like He, Ne, Kr, Xe and Rn are placed in a separate group because of the following reasons:
They are extremely unreactive.
They donot combine with any other element of the periodic table.
Its that simple..

1. Noble gases are inert elements
2.Their properties are different from the all other elements.
3.Noble gases are unreactive since they have their outermost orbit complete.
4. Due to stable electronic configuration they hardly react with other elements.
5. Also they have attained the highest atomic configuration i.e 8 and further they neither can add or give atoms.
6.Noble gases have complete octet / duptet (in case of Helium) which makes them inert to bond making.
