Why do we think there was no constitution in early times

as the rule is with kings in early times,they used to govern people as they wish.
if there is a constitution in their times,kings could get their limits fixed.
this could made the past rulers not to prepare constitution....
they opted for freedom of ruling and flexibility in laws.
