  • The dry cell is the type of electric cell that we employ in our torch.
  • It is known as a dry cell since it contains no liquid chemicals.
  • The electric cell is a cylindrical device with one side having a small metal cap and the other having a metal disc.

Three reasons why a dry cell is used in torchlight:

  1. The electrolyte in the dry cell is in paste form. This avoids spillage and makes it ideal for portable uses like in a torchlight
  2. Torchlight is supposed to be portable and so, it cannot be always operated by connecting it to a source of electricity. Therefore, it requires a portable source of energy and dry cell serves this purpose.
  3. A dry cell has stored chemical energy within them and when the torchlight is turned on reactions take place within them to generate the electric energy essential for the bulb to glow.
