Glass beads are used in a condenser to prevent bursting of the condenser due to excessive heating. The glass beads cool the condenser and hence prevent it from getting excessive heated.

The efficiency of fractional distillation depends on the use of the fractionating coloumn. The fractionating coloumn is packed with glass beads. It provides a large area for vapourisation and condensation of the liqi mixture.
