Why do we use led in the tester instead of a bulb ?

I assume the led for a very low power bulb too because LEDs are used only recently. .In a tester to prevent shock hazard a very high resistor is used in series with the bulb so the current flow is very minute we cant even feel it.
to use a LED we need a diode in addition to the very high resistor(1 megΩ) in series to rectify the mains a/c voltage
