why do we use mercury in the thermometer? Can water be used instead of Mercury? What are the problems in using it?

we use mercury because metal is a good conducter of heat and mercury is the only metal in liquid state.no,we cannot use water in mercury because water do not expand as per temperature given to it and can give us wrong reading

mercury is a metal which is liquid at room temperature and it is a good conducter of heat water cannot replace it because water is not a metal and is do not conduct heat
