Why do we use the term building for buildings when it’s already built ?

This is like a painting... You use paint, to paint a painting. When you are doing it you are painting it, but it's called a painting when it is done?!
Just like drinking a drink- how can you be doing the name of the thing you are doing it to?!?
This can of course be avoided by using proper words for things, like house or skyscraper rather than generic terms like 'building'. Just like drinking a cocktail or coffee instead of a 'drink' or landscape/portrait/abstract instead of a 'painting'... It also pays more respect to the object by using a more accurate word for it.
I like your building example though
