Why do we use the term grain for maize and fruit for mango?

As per my knowledge goes, we use the word grain for maize because the maize, as we eat it is in the form of a seed and not a developed product. We call mango a fruit because it is a developed product with a fleshy pericarp and a seed. Thank you.
