In doin this, the part of cerebrum reseponsible for logic is inactive so dreams usally make less sense...however most of the brain is active in sorting info so youre in a subconscious state of mind where your brain is still working...so a death situation startles you, and the shock is enough for you to wake up and reach for the glass of water kept by your bedside
