☆It is borrowed from the British. I'll tell you how it started. In London, it hardly used to be sunny in the morning (and I guess, even till date it is so). Mostly it used to be cloudy and wet. So the one occasional day when it was sunny and warm, people would be happy as they had been waiting for such a lively morning, and hoping that every day would be so, they would wish each other, “Good morning”. Most of the residents of the Commonwealth, just copied them! This was told by a elderly gentleman who was born in the 1890s. Maybe you could ask any British person born in the 1920s to 1940s. But unfortunately there are very few of them today.
