Why do we write the equation of a line in general form?

Let, an equation is :

2x + 3y = 5 .....(i)

(i) represents a straight line.

The general form of a line is :

Ax + By + C = 0 .....(ii)

The need of transferring an equation into its general form is for our advantages, I think. It depends on our ability to calculate and to determine co-ordinates of any point on graph paper or to find slope of the line.
