why do we write the valency of sulphur as 2,4,6 & not only 2.​

The Valency of Sulphide radical is -2, since the electronic configuration of sulphur is 2,8,6 and so it takes or accepts 2 electrons to achieve 8 electrons in its outermost shell and become stable. So valency is -2.
