I'll give a very short answer. Also see my long comment on Daniel's wonderful thoughts if you have time.
The culture that invests it's manpower to do INNOVATION, Philosophy and human life improvement inevitably dominates or spread into other culture. They may even try to do it through colonization, but at the core there is always that "appeal" to betterment.
Cultures that are non-innovative and tries to protect traditions are the one who end up giving up to other culture.
Happened to chinese culture....happened with spread of islam.it's happening now with the west.
We human are the only living species that constantly changes it's surroundings usually with innovation with intention of betterment. The culture that stops changing, ends up picking up changes that other cultures make.
Thus we see domination of western culture in recent centuries.
