Answer:

1)  It is an accountable form of Government

It responds to the needs of the people, it is answerable to its citizens. Eg.The existence of democracy in India made the Indian government respond to food scarcity in a way that the Chinese government did not during the famine of 1958-1961.

2)  It improves the quality of decision making

Democracy is based on consultation and discussion; it involves many people who are able to point out any mistakes in any decision. It takes time, thereby reducing the chances of rash or irresponsible decisions.

·3) It provides a method to deal with differences and conflicts

In any society people are bound to have differences of opinions and interests. Preferences of one group could clash with those of other groups. Democracy provides a peaceful solution to this problem, where no one is a permanent winner or a permanent loser.

·4) It enhances the dignity of citizens

The strongest argument for democracy is not about what democracy does to the government but what it does to its citizens. As it is based on political equality, people are not subjects of a ruler.

·5) It allows us to correct its own mistakes

Mistakes cannot be hidden for long in a democracy. There is space for public discussion on these mistakes. Either the rulers have to change their decisions or the rulers can be changed.
