• We fall in forward direction when a moving bus brakes to a stop because of inertia of motion . Inertia of motion is the inherent property of a substance to oppose any change in its position of motion. In a bus , our lower body is directly with contact to bus and when the bus starts moving , the body also moves .
• When brakes are applied and bus stops , lower body initially stops but the upper body continues to be in motion due to inertia . Therefore , we fall in forward direction .

• When the bus accelerates , opposite happens , i.e. we fall backwards because of inertia of rest . In this case , body will oppose change in position of rest .
• When bus is accelerated , the lower body also starts moving but the upper body tends to be in rest because of inertia . Therefore , it remains back and lower body moves forward . Hence , we fall backwards .
